Teaching Philosophy
This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill
Learning is something no one knows the outcome of. Those real life epiphanies we have when we have the a-ha moments are one of the most valuable we can ever have. Learning is a game of luck and if we are lucky, we will have an entire classroom community leave better people than when they came in. I believe that learning is not a definitive concept and is different for everyone. Through this, we depend on luck to have people who will enhance our classroom community. Luck is defined as " the force that seems to operate for good." I will be that force for my students. Through being that force, I will enhance my students with the skills necessary to perform well in their academics and their lives. All students have the skills necessary to succeed, but I want to be that individual that pulls those skills out of them and help them use it to succeed in their education and their lives.
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
I want to teach. I want to be there for students. Wanting something and being willing to put yourself in situations of learning is one of the qualities that will make individuals well-rounded teachers and learners. I want to develop a community where we can engage in dialogue and be able to learn effectively from one another. I will develop a community in which students will come in WILLING to learn, WILLING to share, and WILLING to leave the classroom better learners, educators, and overall people.
Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain
Learning can be a difficult thing, especially when it comes to literature. We conjure up thoughts and experiences that we never had before. Learning is not easy. School is challenging and every day in life, we are constantly challenged. I want those challenging moment in my classroom. Those are the moments where we realize that we have become effective learners and where all of us, even myself, as the instructor, will be challenged and learn together. Those moments are to be rewarded and there will be infinite opportunities to feel good about ourselves. When we come out more effective learners and leave a little bit smarter, we always feel good about ourselves. This is what I envision learning to look like.
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name
Education is not solely useful in the classroom but it is useful in life. We learn different philosophies and strategies from our community (including students, parents, faculty, etc.). We can translate these items we have learned into our lives. I envision students using what they have learned from their experiences in the classroom and translate it into their relationships with people, their careers, and their future educating endeavors (whether it be teaching their children, parents, etc. or teaching in a classroom). I will never forget the students I have and the perspectives they bring into my life. I want them to succeed so much in my classroom that they will never be forgotten and make a name for themselves in society. I also plan on accomplishing such higher level learning that I may never be forgotten to them.
